Programs of Interest for DMIL in DC Area – via Sharon Lenius

Colleagues, The Military Libraries Group (MLG) of DC/SLA provides special programming in the Washington, DC area that might be of interest to you….either as a “local” or a visitor.   So “Save the Date” for two upcoming programs:

 

  1. Tour of the Fredereicksburg, VA Civil War Battlefield….”In the Footsteps of War,” a program about the Second Battle of Fredericksburg.  The group will move around the battlefield area via Trolley following the information gleaned from the Diary of Lt. Charles A. Clark, Medal of Honor Winner, who assumed command “under fire.”  Gather in Fredericksburg by 8:45 a.m., Saturday, Oct 4, 2014 for a 3 1/2 Tour.   Cost $15 SLA Members; Non-Members $20.

  1.  “Military Reference & Research:  Sources & Resources”   Thursday, Dec 11, 2014 (yes, we know about the CR expiring that day!) at the Library of Congress, Madison Bldg, Dining Room A, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.  This is supported by FEDLINK.   Cost is $25.  Seating is limited.  This seminar is a unique opportunity to hear from local info pros concerning open access to information available through their facilities.   Hear from representatives of the Senior Service Schools, Academies, Sci & Tech, Medical, Historical/Archives, FFRDCs, Library of Congress resources and more.    See http://dc.sla.org/ for Registration information – late October 2014.
